An island to recharge your batteries

The beauty of this island is that even in peak season, you don't have to search for a spot to lay your towel: the beaches are large and expansive, allowing everyone to find their own little corner of tranquility. But be warned, you have to know where to find the right spots! Since you're here, I'll share my little secrets as a regular: Grands Sables beach is one of my favorites for a family picnic, an afternoon of beach volleyball with friends, or simply to relax alone and appreciate the scenery (it has to be said, this beach is unique). For couples, however, I recommend seeking out secluded coves, sometimes hidden away and not easily accessible, but so incredibly peaceful! You can take a look at the beaches of Groix Island.

Beyond the beaches, their fine sand, and the memories they hold, my favorite activity on holiday in Groix is hiking. On the many trails that crisscross Brittany's second largest island, there are coastal paths for walking around the beaches and enjoying the views, but the inland trails, in my opinion, are even more charming! In spring, bursting with flowers, they are simply splendid. In summer, wilder and more rugged, they are perfect for peaceful, relaxing moments. You can easily spend an afternoon exploring the trails, stopping at the Trou de l'Enfer (Hell's Hole) to get some fresh air (literally!), and then continuing on to Locmaria to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset.

Bike rides and boat trips

If you're not keen on walking, I recommend cycling. While you should be careful in July and August, when there are more cars on the island of Garnets, cycling (electric for those of us less athletically inclined) remains the most suitable mode of transport: no pollution (noise or environmental), fast, and an excellent way to get some exercise to burn off the butter in Breton galettes. The ecological, psychological, and physiological benefits of cycling are unbeatable. bike rental shops They are mainly located in Port Tudy, but you'll also find them on the climb up to the town center. My advice once you've rented your bike: take a short ride around the island, which will allow you to get your bearings very quickly: the port, Locmaria, the town center, the different beaches, Pen-Men…

Looking for a fun activity to enjoy during your vacation? Rent a boat or go sailing. A boat, especially without an engine, offers complete relaxation. It's restful and truly a vacation activity; apart from the Canal de l'Ourcq in Paris, it's not something you get to do very often!
We relax, get a tan, and can even take out our fishing rods to catch a delicious meal (go for it!). For the more athletic, we also have nautical equipment available near Port Mélite!

A calmer activity?

I've already shared my favorite outdoor activities with you, but I haven't yet mentioned the more subtle, tranquil pleasures: cafés on terraces. Breakfast in the sunshine is, for me, the very definition of a perfect start to a holiday day. Again, I have my favorite spots, and Café de la Jetée in Port Tudy is one of them; its terrace is perfectly situated in the morning, ideal with a good book or the day's newspaper. Since the people of Groix are so welcoming, this little moment is also a special time for conversation before the lunch rush.

One last tip? Last but not least: tucked away on the port is Les Fumaisons. A sort of elevated terrace, made entirely of wood, has been built there. You can enjoy platters of smoked fish, accompanied by a glass of wine, all with a splendid view. A truly special moment, especially before a storm, when the sky is heavy with dark clouds and a ray of sunshine illuminates the hulls of the boats; then, you're truly in Brittany…
