Groix, a small island in Brittany
Groix is a warm and welcoming island in Morbihan. After crossing by boat from Lorient, you will be directly immersed in the heart of its activity, in Port Tudy. On this 8 km by 3 km commune in the south of Brittany, you will be able to go for a walk or a bike ride. Numerous bicycle rental companies located between Port-Tudy and Le Bourg will be able to show you the best paths for walks and hikes on the island.
Your stay in Brittany will be the opportunity to enjoy the beaches of the island with the large convex beach of Grands Sables, the typical landscapes of the region as well as many leisure activities. You will also discover the richness of the island's local craft industry, enjoy the many restaurants, meet people and visit mythical places: The Lighthouse of Pen-Men, Port Lay, the Pointe des chats, the Trou de l'Enfer or the Church of the Bourg and its tuna-shaped weather vane...
First of all, you have the choice between two shipping companies from Lorient to make the crossing by boat. The company Océane offers crossings all year round from Lorient, while the company Escal'Ouest offers crossings only during the high season. It should also be noted that the Escal'Ouest boat leaves from Lorient La Base via Port-Louis.
Secondly, you will of course have the possibility to come by your own means from Lorient or elsewhere. The Port Tudy has indeed many places on pontoons or on buoys. Consequently, you will be welcome with your motor boat or sailboat!
Our small island of Morbihan is very animated, especially in season. Some events have become a must in the landscape of the island: The World Godille Championships, the Groisillonne race (and its Trail of Marathoners), the International Island Film Festival (FIFIG), the Music Festival... So many events to satisfy the greatest number of travelers who come to discover the Breton and island culture.
The other actors of the island
The Groix Online website is an independent initiative of thetourist office of the island of Groix. The latter is attached to Lorient Bretagne Sud and you can find it on the quays of Port-Tudy, above the Compagnie Océane ferry terminal. To follow the news from the inside, you can also consultAnita de Groix's blog. Otherwise, the official website of the commune will give you access to many other practical information. The objective of our website dedicated to tourism is above all to help you discover the second largest island in Brittany, in a modern and efficient way. We are all the more convinced that this atypical destination and strong of a respectful tourism of the Breton region deserves a particular attention.
The island micro-climate
The weather of our Ponant island is particularly interesting because of its micro-climate. Indeed, you won't have the same weather conditions as in Lorient! It will not be surprising to see a cloudy sky on the mainland, while the sun will be shining on the spot.
