Practical information
The crossing
Firstly, you have a choice between two shipping companies Lorient to make the crossing by boat. The Oceane Company Escal'Ouest offers year-round crossings from Lorient, while the company only operates crossings during the peak season. It's also worth noting that the Escal'Ouest ferry departs from Lorient La Base, stopping at Port-Louis.
Secondly, you will of course have the option of arriving independently from Lorient or elsewhere. Port Tudy has numerous berths available on pontoons or buoys. Consequently, you are most welcome with your motorboat or sailboat!
The events
Our little Morbihan Island is very lively, especially in season. Some events have also become essential in the island's landscape: The World Sculling Championships, the Groisillonne race (and its Marathon Trail), the International Island Film Festival (FIFIG), the Music Festival… So many events to satisfy the greatest number of travelers who come to discover Breton and island culture.
The other actors on the island
The Groix Online website is an independent initiative of the’Groix Island Tourist Office. This latter point is also linked to Lorient Bretagne Sud and you can find it on the quays of Port-Tudy, above the Compagnie Océane ferry terminal. To follow the news from the inside, you can also consult the Blog of’Anita de Groix. Otherwise, the town's official website will give you access to a wealth of other practical information. The primary goal of our tourism website is to help you discover Brittany's second largest island in a modern and efficient way. We are particularly convinced that this unique destination, with its commitment to sustainable tourism that respects the Breton region, deserves special attention.
The island microclimate
The weather in our Ponant Island is particularly interesting because of its microclimate. Indeed, you won't necessarily have the same weather conditions as in the Lorient area! It's not surprising to see cloudy skies on the mainland, while the sun is shining brightly there.
